Sliders Defeat Aviators

Thursday, June 14, 2018

In a contest closer than the final score would indicate, the Lafayette Aviators ultimately walked away defeated, 6-2.

The Aviators started the game off sluggish, earning a 1st inning error that led to the visiting Sliders’ first run. The Sliders would increase that lead with another run in the top of the 3rd, but Lafayette responded with a run of their own from Tyler Powers in the bottom half.

Springfield seemed to grow more comfortable at the plate as the game went on, putting up one run each in the 6th and 8th innings, and two runs in the 9th. This included a solo homer in the top of the 9th. Joe Crank would score for the Aviators in the bottom of the 7th, but it would be the last run Lafayette would manage.

The Aviators get a day off before returning to Loeb Stadium Saturday for a game with the Hannibal Hoots. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 pm.
